Scanned PDF or text PDF? Choose before converting

Start with standard conversion when you can select and copy text from the PDF. Use Force OCR when the page is an image, the scan has no selectable text, or the existing text layer is unreliable.

  1. Try standard conversion first for a normal text PDF.
  2. Use Force OCR for image-only pages or scans.
  3. Use Remove Existing OCR with Force OCR when a bad hidden text layer produces broken words or reading order.
  4. Check names, numbers, tables, columns, and page order against the source before relying on the Markdown.

OCR options use more credits than standard conversion. Equation-heavy scientific documents may need a specialist OCR workflow.
